Phoenix, AZ (December 7, 2005) – Swift Transportation Co. Inc. has deployed PrePass Plus to enable their vehicles to comply with state safety and credential requirements while bypassing weigh stations at highway speed and pay tolls electronically at toll plazas throughout the Northeast and Illinois.
“Uninterrupted travel through weigh stations and hundreds of E-ZPassSM equipped bridges and tollbooths means enhanced customer service and added efficiencies, such as fuel savings, processing toll payments and avoiding delays at toll booths,” according to Dave Berry, vice president Swift Transportation Co. Inc.
Swift is the holding company for Swift Transportation Co. Inc., a truckload carrier headquartered in Phoenix, AZ. Swift's trucking subsidiaries operate the largest fleet of truckload carrier equipment in the United States with regional and transcontinental operations throughout most of North America.
“We welcome Swift to our growing base of PrePass Plus carriers,” said Richard Landis, president and CEO of HELP, Inc. the public-private partnership responsible for PrePass. “Their decision to use PrePass Plus sends a strong signal throughout the industry that our service has bottom line benefits to our customers. Each month, PrePass processes more than 4 million weigh station bypasses, saving the industry about 2 million gallons of fuel and more than 340 thousand hours of unnecessary weigh station stops.”
PrePass Plus enables enrolled carriers to also pay tolls at more than 300 E-ZPass locations using the same in-cab device. More than 350,000 vehicles and 56,000 carriers have enrolled in PrePass.
PrePass is a sophisticated technology that enables qualified motor carriers to comply electronically with state weight, safety and credential requirements while traveling at highway speeds. As qualified trucks approach a PrePass-equipped inspection facility, an in-cab transponder identifies the vehicle to a computer, which verifies compliance with state safety and credential requirements. Vehicles in compliance receive a green light on the in-cab transponder instructing them to bypass the inspection facility.
Affiliated Computer Services, Inc., (ACS) is the system integrator and operator of the PrePass system. ACS is a premier provider of business process outsourcing (BPO) and information technology (IT) solutions to commercial and government clients worldwide. ACS is a Fortune 500 company with more than 50,000 people supporting client operations in nearly 100 countries.
PrePass is available at 256 weigh stations, ports of entry and agricultural interdiction facilities in 24 states, including Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia Wisconsin and Wyoming. Utah will deploy PrePass during the first quarter of 2006.
