PHOENIX, AZ (March 23, 2004) – In a survey of more than one-thousand drivers by the National Survey of Drivers WagesTM, PrePass was chosen as the top choice and most requested benefit by drivers 66 percent of the time.
The National Survey of Drivers WagesTM conducted the independent survey in December 2003, and results are based on 1,143 randomly selected drivers working for truckload carriers with at least 250 tractors. Drivers were told that they could identify services that they were currently using, had used in the past, or services that they want to be using – that they find positively impacts their lifestyle on the road.
Survey staff noted they believe this survey is of particular importance because drivers get a dual bang for their dollar; carriers receive a service that improves fleet productivity and at the same time raises driver job satisfaction.
“This survey emphasizes what we are also seeing in our increasing enrollment of PrePass. With more than 250,000 users and growing, drivers recognize the positive impact to the bottom line that this service adds to each trip they make,” said Dick Landis, President and CEO of HELP, Inc., the public-private partnership responsible for PrePass®.
PrePass® is the first commercially-available, coast-to-coast electronic preclearance system that enables qualified motor carriers to comply electronically with state weight, safety and credential requirements while traveling at normal highway speeds. Motor carrier participation is strictly voluntary and carrier participation is subject to state qualification standards.
PrePass® equipped trucks are bypassing weigh stations more than 2.4 million times each month. A truck saves at least five minutes and roughly one-half gallon of fuel with each successful bypass, thus PrePass® saves the industry 200,000 hours of productive time and nearly one million gallons of fuel each and every month.
The national PrePass® system is operated by ACS for HELP, Inc. TripPak, chosen as the number two most requested benefit in the survey, is a document management service that was recently acquired by ACS, who now offers both services to its clients. ACS is a premier provider of business process and information technology outsourcing solutions to commercial and government clients worldwide. ACS is a Fortune 500 company with more than 40,000 people supporting client operations in nearly 100 countries.
Launched in California in 1995, PrePass® is operational at 242 locations with more coming soon. Twenty-four states have deployed PrePass®: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
