PHOENIX, AZ (May 29, 2002) – The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today announced the first PrePass sites in the Commonwealth came online. Located on US 13/460 east- and westbound near Suffolk, these locations are among the highest volume truck inspection facilities in the state.
PrePass enables qualified motor carriers to comply electronically with state weight, safety and credential requirements at normal highway speeds. Motor carrier participation is strictly voluntary and carrier participation is subject to strictly enforced state safety qualification standards. Participating carriers pay a nominal fee for each successful bypass.
According to Ab Quillian, DMV Commissioner, "PrePass is a benefit to Virginia’s motor carriers. By partnering with PrePass, we’ve expanded our existing e-screening program while enhancing Virginia’s capacity to improve commercial vehicle enforcement, save motor carriers time and improve highway safety."
“We’re pleased to have Virginia as an active part of the PrePass grid. Inauguration of Virginia PrePass service continues our progress toward enhanced efficiency for our customers and improved highway safety,” said Richard P. Landis, president and CEO of HELP, Inc., the PrePass system provider.
PrePass is scheduled to be deployed at 14 additional locations across the state, including:
