How does PrePass work?
What is the cost for PrePass devices?
PrePass transponders are provided free of charge, although they must be returned if they are no longer being used.  Installation can be done in seconds and requires no technical know-how or additional expense.
How long will it take before my PrePass device begins working?
Your transponder should be operational at most weigh stations within 48 hours of your paperwork being processed.
Is the information collected at PrePass weigh stations supplied to the government?
Your bypass transactions and carrier business information are treated with the utmost privacy.  This data is not publicly disclosed and not permanently retained after payment of relevant transaction fees.  HELP Inc is committed to ensuring that PrePass users are never subject to a higher level of enforcement than non-users.
Is a driver’s time from one PrePass weigh station to another clocked to see if they are speeding?
PrePass has no technology in place for assessing vehicle speeds and bypass data cannot be electronically transmitted from one site to another.  For their own safety, and that of the motoring public, we encourage drivers to always follow posted speed limits.
Will my invoice show times that vehicles bypass each weigh station, so that it can be compared against the driver logs?
PrePass does not retain any timestamp information that could be used for enforcement purposes. The invoice will only list dates that vehicles bypass, never times.
Florida Agricultural Inspection Facilities – If I have submitted the Florida Agricultural and Electronic Bill of Lading Pre-Clearance Program Application (Form DACS-01281, ref date 5/02) and been approved by the state, do I still need to pull into the inspection facility?
No, unless you are carrying an agricultural load. If you receive no light, you must always pull into the inspection facility. Remember that bypassing these sites (Yulee NB & SB 1-95, White Springs NB & SB I-75, and Live Oak EB & WB I-10) is by separate application approval only.
How often will I be billed?
Most PrePass customers are billed monthly.
What should I do if a transponder is not working properly?
First ensure that the device is properly mounted on the windshield, in a position at least two inches but not more than three inches from the top center of the windshield.  Some facilities may have some slight variation in the setup of their overhead readers, so you may need to adjust the transponder position slightly to ensure proper communication.  If you continue to have problems, contact the PrePass Service Center.
Why do the devices need to be mounted on the windshield and not somewhere else?
The device must be mounted on the windshield, according to the installation instructions, so that the overhead reader on the roadside can signal the device. This location (at least two inches but not more than three inches from the top center of the windshield) has been approved by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
What is the lifespan of the transponder battery? How is the battery changed?
The battery in each transponder should last at least five years. When the battery needs to be replaced, the device will simply stop operating. If your device stops working and you believe the battery is dead, please ship the device back to our warehouse and submit a request for a new transponder.
What should I do if I begin working for a different carrier?
If you have your own PrePass account, you will need to submit a new application and copies of your new operating credentials so that your account can be updated.

If you were previously working for a company that provided PrePass transponders, but you did not have your own account and receive invoices directly from PrePass, simply return your devices to the old company.  You may apply for PrePass on your own if your new company does not provide you with a replacement transponder.
What if I sell a truck, need to add more trucks, wish to transfer a device, or order additional transponders?
We recommend using the “My PrePass” section of this site to perform any maintenance related to the vehicles and devices enrolled in your account.  If you need any assistance, feel free to contact PrePass Customer Service.
How do I close my account?

All your PrePass devices must first be returned to our warehouse before your account can be closed.  It is strongly advised that the devices be insured for $100 each when shipped.  If any transponder is lost, damaged, stolen, or otherwise unaccounted for, your account will be charged for the cost of replacing it.

Written authorization to close your account must also be received or it will remain active and additional charges will accrue.   Please fax your closure request to (602) 528-0906 and include your account number.

Finally, you will need to remit your remaining account balance.  Billing is done in arrears, so depending on the date we receive your closure notice, you may still have some charges pending.  Once final payment has been received, you will be sent a final zero-balance invoice; please retain this for your personal records.

How long does the light stay on after a signal is received?

There are two different types of transponders used for PrePass service.  Both types perform the same function, but have a slightly different design.

For the black model…

When a signal is received, the red or green LED will flash for 5 seconds. The ‘Press to Test’ button can be pressed for the next 15 minutes to display the last signal received.  If all three lights flash consecutively when the button is pressed, the device did not receive a signal within the last 15 minutes.

For the gray model...

When a signal is received, the appropriate red or green LED flashes once per second for the first 30 seconds, then flashes twice every 15 seconds for 14.5 minutes.

Instead of a “Press to Test” button, this model has a low battery indicator light.
